Ooohhh, Deviant Art, you long lost ol' love of mine. How have you been?
LOTS has happened since my last journal entry. My comic illustration classes landed me an opportunity to teach at the International School of Comics in Chicago. I winded up substituting there for a few weeks, but as it came down to the semester for my class they said they ran out of room and I'd have to hold class in the hallway or outside. I never expected that so I dropped my course with them and never looked back.

I set myself to the task of finally producing my own comic. I plotted out story points in a mole skin pool-side while my kids swam at our apartment complex's pool. When they started school I sat myself down and planned out 4 volumes of story for The BRINE. I then took to the task of writing 12 issues worth of scripts. Now, I'm on the task of penciling, inking, producing and distributing the book. It's a laborious task but I tell myself every time it gets daunting that this is what I wanted to do with my life.

As a stay home father I get my kids on and off their buses every day, keep the house clean, and cook dinner for my wife so it's hot and ready by time she arrives.
The time I can spare I do hobbies on the side like model kits, costuming, and medieval combat. It's almost LARPing but there's no role play. You either get better at fighting or you lose.

That's right I teach the youth! I even teach adults! It's been a long hard road making commissions on my own, but I recently threw my hat in the ring with a local art studio and pitched my syllabus ideas for a comic art illustration class! It worked! They liked what they saw. They set up the summer schedule and so far I've been teaching for a few months and my students have had a blast! They have come a long way since where they started and I'm excited to see where they go in the future.
I'm also setup to teach online if you're interested! I can do One-On-One video tutorials live! I've done a few demos on my youtube channel but these courses will be more personal, interactive, and fun!     I do take payments upfront, but not until I have agreed to the commission. Please, message me regarding your commission ideas either here in a personal message on DA or via my email at lead-base@hotmail.com. I accept payments via paypal using the exact same email address, but again do not send money first unless I have agreed to the commission. Commissions are open for a limited time for a limited few slots.  

    I love to work with individuals and help them receive the work of art they're envisioning. Many of the examples below took time pouring over in-game screen captures, photo references, and most of all a lot of layout sketches to get the composition just right. I work directly with you so at every stage of the process you can receive progress updates. Unless of course you prefer the surprise reveal at the end which tends to have a stronger WOW factor when you have no idea whats coming. For adult oriented commissions please read the description at the bottom.

    All commissions I create I reserve the right to post publicly online in my various gallery pages with acceptations of the Adult Oriented ones. They are all yours for private viewing.

    C2E2 has snuck up on me and I am opening the door to oncoming commissions with hopes of funding my trip. My trip will be only directed towards showing my portfolio for review in hopes of finally breaking in! It will not be a personal venture filled with fun and socializing but only networking, showcasing, and learning all I need for my continued pursuit of professional work.

-ADULT COMMISSIONS-
    I will draw a wide variety of adult content but for all of them I will require proof of age verification. We can discuss which version you are comfortable with using via personal message.   
    Fan fiction is great and can sometimes go too far. I'm not one to tell you what you are to like or not. I will tell you ahead of time areas that I will not draw. I will draw furries but not humans on animals. Distinctly humanoid-animorphs with each other is fine by me. I will draw BDSM, but not realistic violent rape scenarios. I will draw nude pinups. Nice and simple. Very tasteful and elegant.
Difference pricing rules will apply to Adult Themed Commissions based on content.


 

     Writhing and churning far beneath the frosted crust of the earth's layer we here at the Base will be bringing in the new year. I started 2013 saying "This will be my year. I can FEEL IT!" Looking over the pictures our family took this year I realized I fell short of my goal for 2013 and yet I made a very memorable year for my kids. I'm glad the time was spent building memories for their childhood. Maybe it was not so much the production of my comic, but it is not a complete loss of time.

     We have contributed to finalizing our release plan for 2014. We set a schedule that plans out the kick-off of our kickstarter campaign, the release of our first 3 issues at Chicago Comic Con (Wizard World Chicago), and the ongoing monthly release of our book on Sept. 3!

     I am still submitting to the Top Cow talent search which is due by the end of January 2014. When the alcohol is out of my system and the party streamers have been swept up then I will get back to the drawing board and pump out the final finishes! I look forward to posting them up on DA and getting some feed back.

     So, if Top Cow does not land for me, then I promise that this year will bear fruit for the Lead-Base. Fruit in the form of our comic titled: VerXia
